Combine aspect-ratio formats into one ad

Fold the 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16 versions of a creative into a single ad with placement-specific media.

  1. Name your files consistently

Use the same base name with a ratio suffix: summer_1x1.jpg, summer_4x5.jpg, summer_9x16.mp4. Recognised suffixes are 1x1, 4x5, 9x16, 16x9 (also with -, _, : or ×) and words like square, portrait, story, reel, vertical, landscape, feed.

  2. Upload them together

Add all versions in step 3. Each shows its ratio label (1:1, 4:5, 9:16, 16:9). If a file shows “—”, set its format manually with the per-file dropdown.

  3. Switch on Combine formats

In the Creatives toolbar, enable Combine formats. Files with the same base name fold into one row, e.g. “Video · 3 formats in one ad”, with placement chips: 9:16 runs in Stories & Reels, 4:5 (or 1:1) in Feeds, 1:1 in all other placements.

  4. Adjust groups if needed

Use + Combine with… on a file to add it to a group manually, or Split into separate ads on a group to undo. Combined ads allow one text variation per copy field.

Good to know

  • With Combine formats off, every file becomes its own ad — useful when you want to test formats against each other.
